Morgan's Early Life

Morgan Freeman was born on June 1, 1937, in Memphis Tennessee and since he was a little child, he was beginning to become an actor. Freeman made his debut at age nine when he played the lead role in a school play. Because of this, Morgan ended up attending Broad Street High School, a building that serves today as Threadgill Elementary School, in Greenwood, Mississippi. When he turned 12, he won a statewide drama competition, and while still at Broad Street High School, he performed in a radio show based in Nashville, Tennessee. As you can see, he was already becoming an actor when he was a little child.

When Morgan Freeman was young, he wanted to be a fighter pilot. But, his supervisor said that his skills weren’t good, so Freeman turned to acting. And from the 1970s he kept acting in movies, such as Another World, Brubaker, and Street Smart, where his part as a dangerous hustler got him his first ever Academy Award nomination. After that, he received multiple oscar nominations in about 20 years.

Morgan's Career

When Morgan was 30, he got his big break. The movie that he was in was called Hello, Dolly. Morgan was in many movies and won a lot of Oscars. For example, he was in the Shawshank Redemption, Angel Has Fallen, Seven, The Dark Knight, and many more. He was a five-time Academy Award nominee and a five-time Golden Globe Award nominee. He won an Academy Award as best supporting actor for a 2004 film called Million Dollar Baby. He also won a Golden Globe Award for best actor in the 1989 film, Driving Miss Daisy. He was an inspiration to many from his acting career.

Morgan Freeman had many achievements in his acting career. Getting nominated in the Academy and Golden Globe award is hard enough, but winning both of them once is on another level. He had been so successful that he was even awarded the AFI (American Film Institute) Life Achievement. Morgan Freeman accepted the 39th AFI Award for his acting career. It was a memorable moment for most. By the end of his career, he ended up having 11 awards in acting. This is why Morgan Freeman is one of the most memorable African American actors.
